Tacos El Tarasco Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into Tacos El Tarasco Restaurant feels like slipping into a warm local embrace. Tucked along Ajo’s quiet highway, this Mexican eatery carries the easygoing rhythm of a cherished neighborhood spot where the pace slows just enough to savor good company and honest food. The hum of casual conversations drifts between the inviting indoor seating and a sun-dappled outdoor patio, offering space to linger whether you seek shade or a gentle breeze in the desert air.
At its heart, the experience here is about simple pleasures—meals made with care and flavors that speak of tradition without fuss. The food, complemented by lively salsas and thoughtfully poured Jarritos or a refreshing margarita, feels like something shared among friends rather than a rushed bite. There’s a quiet authenticity that fills the room, where hearty combinations like carnitas tacos or a freshly grilled fish taco arrive accompanied by the comforting sides of beans and rice, each bite unfolding layers of familiar, homey warmth.
The atmosphere is punctuated by approachable, friendly service that makes every visit feel personal; this isn’t a place hurried by trends, but one rooted in local spirit. It carries the marks of its community—modest yet inviting, with touches of a remodel hinting at its evolving story. Here, the interior and patio both foster moments to relax, catch up, and enjoy food meant to nourish both body and spirit.
For those journeying through or calling Ajo home, Tacos El Tarasco extends an earnest invitation to step off the highway and into a space where the taste of Mexico meets the warmth of genuine hospitality. It offers a refreshing break from the road, a place where the comfort of tacos and tamales becomes a quiet celebration of place and flavor.

We had delicious carne asada burrito and chicken quesadilla. The salsas here were excellent. It looks like there might have been a remodel since the last photos, but tasty food and good service.

A quaint little taco restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Very friendly service, very good tacos and burritos, and a nice margarita! We sat outside because we are from Maine and 68 degrees feels balmy to us! We LOVE Ajo for so many reasons, and this spot is one of them.

Driving through town and wanted some good Mexican before we flew back to Chicago (which has great Mexican too!). Checked the reviews, and reading through some of the lower ratings we had a hunch that they were written by a persnickety crew - who leaves a one star review because the salsa is too spicy?? Anyways, we were quickly proven very right. The server (who I have to assume was the owner) was very kind and prompt. The food tasted authentic and was absolutely delicious. They have a full liquor license now - although we weren’t drinking - which seemed to be an issue for some reviewers earlier when they had first opened. And the menu had everything you could want from a Mexican restaurant. We were the only ones in there for lunch which was a bummer on two fronts: this restaurant and crew deserves more business and the good people of America deserve to enjoy its food.

We had the best experience at this very authentic Mexican restaurant. The owner served us and was such a pleasure and the fish tacos and authentic churro was off the charts! Definitely will visit again!

It's not fancy, but the chicken quesadilla was excellent, loaded with meat and cheese. My Tamal plate was just as delicious. I'd eat here again, no doubt!

Absolutely fabulous! The tacos are so good and the tortillas are so fresh. And the churros and ice cream are amazing as well. Great atmosphere and service.
